Courage Is Changing the Climate

Many of us watched President Trump’s first State of the Union address of his second term. It was one of the longest in modern history and covered a range of issues. Policy analysts will dissect it for weeks. But one theme stood out to me personally: the renewed public acknowledgment of Christianity in our nation’s story.

Six years ago, when I stepped into leadership at the Central Florida Christian Chamber, the environment felt very different.

Christians were being openly debanked. Deplatformed. Fired. Sued. Marginalized. Some were pressured out of cities for declaring Jesus as Lord over their work or aligning their companies with biblical conviction. It was not abstract. It was happening in real time to real business owners.

Policy is never neutral. It shapes culture. It sets guardrails. It either protects conscience or pressures it.

But here is what we must understand clearly: cultural shifts do not begin in Washington. They begin in boardrooms. In breakrooms. In private moments when a leader decides whether to self-censor or stand steady.

The reason we are seeing language about faith reenter public conversation is not because politicians suddenly discovered religion. It is because believers refused to retreat.

You stayed faithful.

You kept God first in your life and your business.

You absorbed criticism without becoming combative.

You chose excellence when it would have been easier to withdraw.

Quiet courage compounds.

As I prepare for Apologetics Under Fire at SWC 2026, I have been data-mining conversations across our community. What we are uncovering is revealing.

The greatest resistance Christian leaders face is rarely intellectual.

It is relational.
It is internal.
It is subtle.

It sounds like this:

“I don’t want to offend.”
“I don’t want to lose talent.”
“I don’t want to create tension.”
“I don’t want to be misunderstood.”

Our President’s Advisory Council articulated it clearly in our recent session. The hesitation many feel is not about lacking answers. It is about navigating relationships wisely. It is about humility. It is about discernment. It is about love.

But humility can drift into self-censorship.

Discernment can drift into delay.

Love can drift into silence.

That is the tension of leadership.

This is what I explore in my upcoming book, The Christian CEO, releasing at SWC 2026 — faith, courage, and excellence in the tension of leadership.

Faith without courage becomes private sentiment.

Courage without excellence becomes noise.

Excellence without faith becomes hollow ambition.

We are called to integrate all three.

And at SWC 2026 — Spiritual World Citizens — our Apologetics Under Fire segments will bring this to life on the main stage.

Real business leaders.
Real opposition.
Real stories.
Real courage.

Not rehearsed arguments. Not political rhetoric.

Formation under pressure.

There is a quote often attributed to Francis of Assisi: “Preach the gospel at all times. When necessary, use words.” More is caught than taught.

Your employees are watching.
Your vendors are watching.
Your communities are watching.

Culture is shaped less by speeches and more by steady, consistent leadership.

This moment in our nation is encouraging. But it is not permission to relax. It is a reminder that courage must continue.

Our Christian Chamber Coalition now includes 30 Christian chambers serving more than 3,000 Christian businesses across this nation. That is not accidental. That is conviction multiplied.

If you do not yet have your ticket to SWC 2026, I urge you to be in the room. This is not an event for spectators. It is for leaders who want to be sharpened, strengthened, and reminded they are not alone.

The climate is shifting.

But the real story is this:
You never stopped standing.

And that is why things are changing.

Let’s keep going.
