How to Partner with God to Fulfill Your God-given Purpose

Has God placed desires and dreams in your heart that seem bigger than you could accomplish? What if those dreams were given to purposefully stir you to partner with God and believe in His ability to bring it about through your obedience to Him?

The purposes God has for you are meant to be greater than you because they are God’s purposes. Your God-given purpose can only be accomplished with God.

1 Corinthians 3:9 says, “For we are God’s fellow workers [laborers with God]; you are God’s field, you are God’s building.” (NKJV)

We are invited every day to labor with God. As God’s workers, we are called to work together with God, not apart from Him or in our own strength. We need to work with God to fulfill His assignments successfully.

Before Adam and Eve sinned, Genesis 2:15 tells us that Adam tended the garden. After he sinned, he was called from tending to toiling. The curse of painful toil described in Genesis has been broken by the blood of Jesus—for all who live in Him (Galatians 3:13–14).

We now no longer need to work amongst thorns and thistles, but can instead tend to what He gives us and see the fruit of our work.

Working with God

Laboring with God requires us to follow our Good Shepherd, Jesus, and yield to the Holy Spirit. It requires us to have a heart posture of gratitude when we want to complain. It requires us to be still, when everything in us may want to rush and stress.

Partnering with God requires us to follow the Holy Spirit in what He wants us to do and how He wants us to do it; it is following Jesus in a like manner (John 5:19).

Do not make the mistake of taking on the dreams and assignments God gives you without Him.

You will burn out and not be useful to God. God not only cares about what we are accomplishing, but also how well we are loving Him and others in the process.

You are God’s field and building

No dream is impossible for God to accomplish (Matthew 19:26). If God has given you a vision and a dream, run with it and be encouraged. You are more than capable of accomplishing the task at hand with God.

Let’s go back to 1 Corinthians 3:9, which says, “For we are God’s fellow workers [laborers with God]; you are God’s field, you are God’s building” (NKJV).

The word “God’s field” in Greek is georgion, which means a cultivated field. A cultivated field is arable land — land suitable for growing crops.

You are God’s field.

God sees you as arable land, capable of producing fruit as you abide in Him and allow Him to cultivate you.

The word “building” in Greek is oikodomē, which means building up or edification. God is building you up into who you were made to be. You are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10).

Whenever you feel incapable of fulfilling the task before you, remember that God is building you up to be who you need to be as you partner with God.
