Quitters Day Could Be the Best Day of Your Year

Did you know that 91% of people fail to keep their New Year’s resolutions? Many even refer to January 19 as Quitters Day—the day when motivation wanes and those new routines start to feel like roadblocks.

This reminds me of a funny story about my daughter. When she was 11, she made a New Year’s resolution to give up bread for the entire year. I thought it was an odd choice, but I supported her. By lunchtime on January 1, she was already eating bread. By dinner, she had eaten more bread than usual—on the very day she was supposed to quit! It was hilarious but also revealing. When we focus on what we won’t do, it often makes us want it even more.

This principle applies to life, business and faith. Think of a coach encouraging their team: They’ll say, “Put it in,” not “Don’t miss,” because our minds gravitate toward what we focus on. What we think about, we bring about. If we dwell on failures or what’s holding us back, we stay stuck. But when we focus on God’s promises and His calling, we move forward with purpose.

In Christ, the new creation has come: The old is gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17). We don’t have to rely on our own strength or strive for perfection. God invites us to quit the things that weigh us down—fear, doubt, distractions—and fully embrace the purpose He has for us.

So, this Quitters Day, I’m flipping the script. I’m using it as an opportunity to quit what’s keeping me from integrating faith into my business, reaching the lost, growing Kingdom impact, and transforming our nation. Just a few small goals, right? 😊

I encourage you to join me in rethinking Quitters Day. Let’s take the pressure off, let go of what doesn’t matter, and commit to seeking first the Kingdom of God in everything we do—including our businesses. When we align our goals with His purpose, we open the door for blessings beyond anything we could imagine.

Here’s to a fantastic Quitters Day—let’s make it count for His glory!
