Recognize God’s provision for your business before you toss it aside.

Last weekend in New York, while moving my daughter into college, something unexpected happened.

Twice in one day, strangers asked us for food.

I don’t typically hand out cash, but I never want to deny someone who says they’re hungry. So, we bought extra pizza slices for one man.

He tossed them aside and called it “cat food.”

Later, another man asked us for food, so we darted into a deli, grabbed a ham and cheese sandwich, chips, and water. When we offered it, he waved it away—“I don’t eat sandwiches.” Even the water was dismissed.

Walking away, I told my daughter, “There’s a lesson here.”

If I were truly hungry, I’d eat just about anything. But these men asked for food, then rejected it. In that moment, the Lord reminded me: “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry.” (John 6:35)

My heart instantly felt heavy with regret. How many times have I dismissed God’s provision in my business because it was not what I thought it should be?

As I sat with this, I realized it’s a common struggle for believers in business. I see it often: God provides, but the blessing gets tossed aside because it doesn’t look the way we expected.

We pray for success, restoration, growth, or breakthrough—and when the answer shows up, we dismiss it.

It doesn’t look like what we expected. It feels too small, too ordinary, or just not our “flavor.”

But what if the very bread you’ve been praying for is already sitting in front of you?

Maybe it’s a connection you brushed off, a slower season you complained about, or a small opportunity you didn’t think was worth your time. What if that was the provision you needed all along?

This week, I challenge you to shift your focus—less on what you think you want and more on what God has already given you. Ask Him to reveal the bread He has already placed in your hands.

Pray for forgiveness where you may have dismissed His answer without recognizing it. You might discover that the breakthrough you’ve been asking for has been right under your nose.

And may all your meals this week be better—much better—than cat food. He sets a feast.

John 6:35 (NIV): “Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’”
