Lead with Kingdom Authority – Submit, Resist, and Experience Miraculous Results

As I was preparing for a recent online time of prayer, the scripture from the book of James resonated within me. I have read this passage often, studying the verses before and after it. But this time, one verse stood out to me in a way that it had never done before.

I knew God was speaking and highlighting this verse for a reason. Often when God speaks, He can say a lot by saying what may appear to be a little. Here is the verse.

James 4:7 (NASB)
“Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

This verse reveals a divine order and a powerful promise. There’s a direct connection between our submission to God and our ability to resist the enemy—and there’s a result: the devil will flee.

For many believers, especially those leading in the marketplace, submission is often interpreted as obedience. We think of it as doing what God says—choosing His will over our own. That’s certainly part of it. But submission also means allowing God to manifest His will in His way, not ours.

Sometimes we envision what it will look like when God’s will is fulfilled in our lives—how the breakthrough, promotion, or expansion will come. But when reality doesn’t match that image, we can become disappointed or even resistant to what God is actually doing. If you’re in that place, I encourage you to allow Holy Spirit to help reconcile your image of fulfillment with the way God is presently moving.

Submission is not just about following instructions; it’s about agreeing with every part of God’s will for your life. It means aligning your faith with what He has spoken over you, your leadership, your influence, and your impact. It is getting and staying in agreement with Jesus, which is the posture that allows us to carry His power, His solutions, and His perspective in every area of life—including your business.

Let’s look at the second part of the verse: “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

One of the definitions for the Greek word resist means to oppose, to take a stand against. This resistance isn’t passive—it’s deliberate.

As Kingdom leaders, we must intentionally oppose limiting beliefs, negative thoughts, discouraging data, fearful words, contradictory voices, and anything else that attempts to pull us out of agreement with God. These are fiery darts sent to derail your Kingdom influence and disarm your spiritual authority in the marketplace.

God has given you His faith. Scripture calls it a shield that extinguishes every fiery dart. And here’s something to remember: every thought that comes to you did not originate from you. The enemy often tries to plant lies in the form of thoughts to make you doubt who you are and what you’re called to do.

You are who God says you are—so submit to that truth, and resist everything else.

Here are some questions to guide you in prayer and reflection:

➡️ Where have I been tolerating what I should be resisting?

➡️ What areas of my life or leadership need re-submitting to God’s truth—even if it’s uncomfortable?

Ask Holy Spirit to show you clearly, then write it out, and allow Him to give you the next steps so you can take action.
