Surviving Leadership
In the wake of our successful SWC 2024, I’ve reflected on the profound discussions we shared about the intangibles of good business, particularly the identity we carry and the role of the Holy Spirit in our endeavors. There’s an aspect we touched on less but is equally crucial: our physical health, the temple of the Holy Spirit.
“Running the rat race” often describes our daily grind as leaders. The endless pursuit of mission and purpose can take a toll on us physically. But have you considered this: Perhaps the enemy isn’t just after what’s inside you spiritually but is also attacking the very vessel that carries it.
1 Corinthians 3 reminds us of our duty not only to our spirit but also to our physical temple.
It’s a startling fact: Chronic illness accounts for 71% of deaths in North America. This number escalates to 84% among leaders, change-makers, and executives.
The silver lining? A staggering 95% of these deaths are preventable through better habits and lifestyle choices.
At the recent President’s Roundtable, Justin Roethlingshoefer opened our eyes to these alarming statistics. His insights and the practical tools from his book, The Power of Ownership, underline the necessity of taking ownership of our health. His mission: to reduce these preventable deaths to less than 50% by 2035. It’s ambitious but achievable with concerted effort and awareness.
Let’s pivot from the relentless pursuit of “normal” and design lives that allow us to thrive. Let’s opt out of the universal rat race and embrace the race meant for us: achieving more, reaching further, and living healthy, wealthy, and wise.
